COVID CRISIS
OPPORTUNITY FOR CREATIVITY
Life changed dramatically when the COVID-19 pandemic moved University of Arkansas classes online March of 2020 due to social distancing requirements and a stay-at-home order set in place. I had plans to move from Fayetteville, AR to Manhattan, NY at the end of May 2020 to begin an internship in June. Unfortunately, my internship was cancelled and my plans to move were also halted. I moved back home to St Louis, MO and re-evaluated what life as a recent graduate would look like.
During a time of readjustment in the world, I had two options: I could either stay stagnant and wait for opportunity to come my way or seek it out. I chose the latter. I am extremely excited and eager to get my start in the industry. My time at the U of A has prepared me for my career.
While living at home, I needed to complete an internship as a final step in my program's academic requirements. With my internship cancelled, I was upset. Fortunately, I stumbled upon celebrity stylist, Andrew Gelwick's, Fashion Career Accelerator. He created a program for college students whose opportunities were cancelled this summer due to the pandemic. Andrew created a space where likeminded individuals could share a space to relate to one another and learn from him as he provided resources and insight knowledge into the industry.
After learning from Andrew as well as fulfilling internship requirements, I completed a project:
My work entitled "Colors of COVID" is composed of 7 looks shot in an editorial setting inspired by current events and changes to life as we knew it due to COVID-19 combined with style trends popular in A/W 19/20 and S/S 20.
